Преподавательская деятельность:
На кафедре работает с 2018 года. На 4 курсе факультета МО ведет занятия по курсам «Внешняя политика Китая на современном этапе». В магистратуре читает курс «Вопросы международной безопасности». Руководит выпускными квалификационными работами бакалавров и магистерскими диссертациями. 

Научная деятельность:
К.полит.н. Мгер Саакян является основателем и директором Совета политических и стратегических исследований "Китай-Евразия". Он является 2020/2021
 AsiaGlobal Fellow в Азиатском глобальном институте Гонконгского университета (Китай) и избранным членом Совета советников Международного института мира, (Венна, Австрия). Он является преподавателем Российско-Армянского университета, Ереванского государственного университета и Национальной академии наук Армении. К. полит. н. Саакян получил научную степень (doctoral degree) по международным отношениям в Нанкинском университете в Китае. Он также является основателем международной конференции «Евразийские исследования современного Китая и Евразии» и автором книги Китайская инициатива «Один пояс, один путь» и Армения, опубликованной на армянском и русском языках. Его совместно редактированная книга, под названием Китай и Евразия: переосмысление сотрудничества и противоречий в эпоху изменения мирового порядка (Routledge) опубликована в 2021 году.
Автор более 20 научных и аналитических работ, включая 1 монографии 1 коллективной монографии (соавтор) опубликованный Routledge.
